Flounder Gigging

Our flounder gigging trips usually begin in July and run until the end of September or the beginning of October. This is a 5 or 6 hour trip that starts at sundown. We wade through the shallow water of the Pamlico Sound or slowly push the boat while holding LED lights underwater looking for doormats! The water depth averages about 1-3 feet where the flounder lay at. During the day the larger flounder hold in deep water channels and sloughs , but at night they move up super shallow to feed which makes them easy pickings for us with gigs. The biggest flounders we see all year are harvested this way . We also see lots of sheep head as well that end up in the cooler. Weather can be an issue at times for flounder gigging; light winds and clear water makes for ideal conditions.

The weather conditions are dependent on calm weather and calm waters. If you are interested in a flounder gigging charter, please reach out to me at 717-448-1122.
